Wrestler Name: "The Evangelist" Jerry Matthews
Height: 6'6
Weight: 275
Hometown: Redemption Alabama
Manager: Deacon Jeremiah
Age: 35
Theme Music: Josh Turner - Long Black Train
Pic Base (put the person's name only): Joel Osteen
Style (Hardcore, Brawler, etc.): Brawler
Detailed Appearance (out of the ring): Matthews usually wears a suit and a tie, in true televangelist style. He usually always carries a copy of the good book anywhere he goes as well.
Detailed Appearance (In the ring): He wrestles in pair of long black tights adorned with the words "God's child" on the back. He also wears a pair of black boots, each adorned with a white crucifix on the sides.
Entrance: As Josh Turner's "Long Black Train" begins to play, "The Evangelist" Jerry Matthews strides down the aisle in a suit and tie. In his hand, he carries a Bible and begins his regular sermon as he ventures down to the ring. His spiritual liaison, Deacon Jeremiah, accompanies him to ringside with an offering plate, ready to collect money from any believers in the crowd. As he gets to the ring, he climbs through the ropes and removes his suit. He then raises his Bible in a preachly manner to the crowd as they boo incessantly.
Finishing Moves: Holy Vendetta (a running powerslam), Savior's Wrath (a jackhammer)
Signature Moves: Angel's Flight (top rope flying clothesline), Hammer of God (thunderous spinning side slam)
Basic Moveset: Primarily power moves, i.e. a lot like Scott Norton from old WCW days. These would include power slams, shoulder breakers, powerbombs, scoop slams, suplexes, etc.
Heel/Face Status: Heel
Brief Bio: Jerry Matthews hails from Redemption, Alabama, one of the most evangelical communities in all of the U.S. Born the son of an extremely conservative Baptist minister, Jerry was involved in the church at an extremely early age. However, he began to question his faith after the tragic death of his mother from leukemia the day after his 13th birthday. Repeated talks with his father helped to restore his faith.
However, he didn't become a true fanatic until the tragic murder of his father at the hands of a heroin addict. After a seemingly endless period of depression, he was awoken one night by a vision of the archangel Gabriel. Gabriel told him that he needed to avenge his father's death by punishing all sinners in what he deemed an acceptable fashion. It is following this vision that he has taken on his mission, to spread the message of God through his ministry and to punish those blasphemers in an extremely violent fashion
Sample RP (Required): (One side note, this is a previously used promo for the character's debut in another e-fed. If you'd like something more original, please just say so and I can make it happen)
The scene opens to a black limo that pulls up in front of the Wells Fargo Arena and comes to a complete stop. The driver, wearing the traditional black uniform, gets out and walks around to the back. He opens the door, and out steps one of the newest arrivals to SCW, "The Evangelist" Jerry Matthews. He is not alone this week, however, as out with him steps a huge black man dressed in a blue pinstriped suit. Matthews looks up, and acknowledges the camera with his regular cliched greeting, speaking as if he's talking with one of his usual parishoners.
Matthews: Good day my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. As you can see, I've finally made it to SCW and I'm ready to begin my quest to combat the massive amounts of blaspheming and sinning that are occurring in the vast Arizona desert. But, I've realized that I can't possibly take on this mission singlehandedly. Thus, I have brought with me my most trusted companion. His name is Deacon Jeremiah Robinson, and he will serve as my personal bodyguard during my matches and various sermons as well as my chief of fundraising as I spread the good news of the Gospels and end the sinful ways of the SCW locker room.
Deacon Robinson begins to clench his fists and stares menacingly into the camera as Matthews continues on.
Matthews: My flock, this week's sermon is based on our personal relationships with God and how we must be held accountable for our actions and those committed by our fellow brothers and sisters in the Lamb. The Lord our God and his son, Jesus Christ, proclaimed that we were all one people through him and his teachings. Yet, there are many who still don't believe so. The words of the Gospel, of St. Paul and even Simon Peter himself proclaim this,
and still there isn't enough evidence for some.
It's not that we as humans are evil and suffer because of it. This blame lies on the many bad apples that walk amongst our midst. Recently, I've noticed one such example. This man is the SCW Rising Star Champion, The Wild Child. Sure, this troubled youth spent a lot of time wandering the streets of Detroit, struggling to make ends meet. But, this doesn't justify his treatment of our fellow brothers and sisters. It sickens me to see him in such a position of influence in this federation as the Rising Star Champion.
Thus, I have made it my own personal mission to become the new Rising Star Champion. This will be the perfect plateau to help me launch my quest to cleansing the world of all sin and help us begin anew. But, only when I'm in a position of such influence will the true message of the archangel Gabriel and the Lord God our Father be heard! Praise be to God! AMEN!!!!
The camera pans out as Matthews and Robinson leave the car and head into the arena and the scene fades to black
