(The last time anyone saw true greatness himself, Michael Morrison, in a professional wrestling ring, he was capturing the PCW World Heavyweight Championship from Sickboy at Cataclysm in front of a spirited crowd. Premium Championship Wrestling was closing its doors on this night and Morrison had vowed to capture the big belt and send the fans home happy for the final time. The PCW World Heavyweight Championship had been in the possession of the Elite for most of 2011 and the fans were begging for someone to come along and put a stop to their domination.
It didn’t come easy for fans to get behind Morrison, however. When he debuted in Premium Championship Wrestling in February of 2011, he was among the cockiest and most arrogant wrestlers they had ever seen compete in a PCW ring. He immediately went after the popular Israel Steele and took his PCW Platinum Championship. He held onto this belt for several months and even started hanging around the Elite. It wasn’t until they turned their back on him, and left him a bloody mess, that he finally saw the light.
Slowly but surely, Morrison began realizing what a jerk he had become. Slowly but surely, Morrison began realizing that he wasn’t acting the way he parents had intended whey they raised him. The man known as true greatness himself finally realized that he needed to turn his life around and make changes. He started to show more respect towards people and in turn, his career took off. After a few weeks of beat downs from the Elite, he was able to defeat Yoshiru Long to become the number one contender for Sickboy’s PCW World Heavyweight Championship at Cataclysm. After a back-and-forth battle, Morrison prevailed and, in addition to being inducted into the PCW Hall-of-Fame, he became the final PCW World Heavyweight Champion.
Cincinnati Enquirer Sports Editor Joe Todd recently caught up with the PCW World Champ to see what he has been up to since Premium Championship Wrestling closed its doors.)
Joe Todd: Michael, you’ve been mostly under the radar since capturing the PCW World Heavyweight Championship. People ask me on a daily basis what you have been up to. Have you competed anywhere?
“True Greatness” Michael Morrison: Well Joe, it’s nice that people still recognize what true greatness is all about. The truth of the matter, however, is that I have not competed since Premium Championship Wrestling closed its doors. Now sure, I get calls just about everyday from promoters all over the country…begging me to join their ranks and bring true greatness to their organization. But the fact of the matter, Joe, is that I am the PCW World Heavyweight Champion and that’s not a responsibility that I take lightly.
JT: Wait a second Michael, the PCW is closed. Why are you still referring to yourself as the champion?
“TG” MM: Joe, the answer is simple. Premium Championship Wrestling will be back someday. I don’t know when and I don’t know how but the PCW will ride again. And when it does, Michael Morrison will be back to take his rightful place on the top of the mountain. You see Joe, I feel shortchanged. I feel like I had the rug pulled out from under me. You see, my reign as PCW World Heavyweight Champion would have been legendary. It would have been something that had people talking from one generation to another. Those schmucks from the Elite might have thought they were the biggest dominating force in professional wrestling history…and they had a great run, I can’t deny that…but they couldn’t match what true greatness brought to the table. I defeated Yoshiru Long…I defeated Heather Monroe…and most importantly, I defeated Sickboy to finally loosen their stranglehold of MY title belt.
When Premium Championship Wrestling rises from the ashes and rules the world of professional wrestling once again, Michael Morrison will be the face of the company. Michael Morrison will be the man to lead them into the next generation. Michael Morrison will be the most dominating force anyone has ever seen. And there isn’t anything that Long, Monroe, Sickboy, Baker, Steele, DLK, etc. can do about it.
JT: Are you worried, Michael, that being away from the ring for an extended period of time will have an effect on you?
“TG” MM: Nobody needs to worry about that. I’m keeping myself in peak condition and if anything, my body will be 100% healed. You see, I’ve been wrestling for a lot of years. And along the way, I’ve taken a lot of bumps and bruises. But I feel like a new man now. I feel like I did when I entered my first wrestling school for training at the age of 18. Wrestling to me is like riding a bike and I have no doubt that when that bell rings again, sometime down the road, I’ll be more than ready to show everyone, once again, what true greatness is all about.
JT: Let’s change gears a little bit. Since you’re not wrestling, what have you been up to?
“TG” MM: Well Joe, I’m just relaxing and enjoying life. I’ll do the occasional public appearance or autograph signing but for the most part, I’m traveling overseas and loving not really doing anything.
JT: It’s well-documented that you are a big baseball fan so with spring training getting ready to begin, how do you think the Cincinnati Reds are going to do this year?
“TG” MM: I think we’re going to have a good season this year. The front office made some good moves to shore up weak areas and I’m hoping to see a playoff run that will eventually lead to a World Series title!
JT: Is it true that the Reds have contacted you to throw out a ceremonial first pitch at some point this season?
“TG” MM: Yeah, that is true. We’re still trying to work out a date that works for everyone but at some point, the PCW World Heavyweight Champion will be there to wow the crowd with his 65-MPH fastball!
JT: 65-MPH?
“TG” MM: (laughs) Yeah, let’s just say that it was an easy decision to choose wrestling over baseball!
JT: Well Michael, it was good catching up with you and let’s just say that a lot of people are looking forward to seeing you compete in a professional wrestling ring once again.
“TG” MM: I’m looking forward to it as well and hopefully it will be sooner than later!
