------------------------------------------- (Friday, August 10th) --------------------------------------------------
The scene opens up outside of Kai’s room, where Jin is frantically knocking on the door of the older Disciple. Today was Kai’s 21st birthday, and no one had seen nor heard from him all morning. This was not a normal occurrence, as Kai is normally up and about at the break of dawn for his “Morning” Workout. It was now noon, and Kai was still in his room, if the locked door was any indication. This worried Jin greatly.
Jin: Kai! Kai! C’mon, man, it’s your birthday! Even you have to feel SOMETHING today!
Jin continued to bang on the door in hopes that Kai would answer it, before stopping as a large hand grabbed his wrist, cutting him off. He looked up and saw Bull Connor holding his wrist, shaking his head at the teenager.
Bull: I think it’s time you called it quits, Kid. If he hasn’t come out already, then he ain’t gonna come out any time soon.
Not far from the two, Alisyn sneered slightly as she placed book she was reading down on the table in front of her and decided to make her opinion known.
Alisyn: I think we should let him be. If he wants to wallow in his misery and pitiful existence today, then who are we to deny him that?
Jin glared at Alisyn for the remark as she went back to reading her book. The rivalry between she and Kai, which was already considerably bad, had become worse during their stay at Alisyn’s home. He knew that she and Kai hated eachother, but still, she should show at least a small bit of sympathy to the younger brother of their leader. Before Jin could call her on her behavior, Jimmy Gambino entered the hallway, looking at Jin casually.
Jimmy: He still ain’t coming out?
Jin shook his head sadly in the negative.
Jin: No, he’s still in there. I don’t get why he’s so friggen moody today! It’s his 21st birthday! The big 21!
Jimmy shrugged slightly, not too sure of it either.
Jimmy: I don’t know, man. The guy is worse than he was last year around this time, and he was fuckin’ miserable back then!
Bull nods in agreement with Jimmy’s statement, while Alisyn scoffed. She didn’t really care about Kai’s moping to be honest. The less she had to see of the arrogant little prick, the better. The only issue she had with it was that he had to mope within the confines of HER home, but due to him being Syn’s brother, she could really do nothing about it. Sighing, Alisyn closed her book and laid It on the table, before standing up and walking towards the door, gaining the attention of the other three people in the area.
Bull: Where ya goin’, Alisyn?
Alisyn paused, and then looked back at the three men.
Alisyn: Somewhere where I don’t have to be in the same vicinity as Kai. While you all are more than content with squandering your day trying to get “The Birthday Boy” to stop drowning in his own pathetic misery, I am not. So I’m going to the nearest park to enjoy myself. You’re more than welcome to join me, or you can stay and continue to waste your time in this fruitless effort. It doesn’t really matter to me.
Having said her piece, Alisyn opened the front door and walked out, leaving Jin, Bull, and Jimmy staring at the spot she was just standing it. Finally, after a few moments of silence, Jimmy looked over to Jin and spoke.
Jimmy: She’s kinda right, man. I like Kai and all, but this shit is gettin’ ridiculous. I’m outta here.
Jimmy followed after Alisyn, leaving both Bull and Jin in the kitchen hallway. Bull gave Jimmy a shrug, and then went after his manager and Alisyn, leaving Jin all alone next to Kai’s door. Jin sighed as he placed a hand on Kai’s bedroom door, saddened by the turn of events.
Jin: Sometimes, I really don’t get you, man. But whatever it is that’s eating at you, I hope you put behind you.
Jin slowly turned around and gave the door one last look, before he placed his hands inside of his pockets and trudged out of the door, not noticing the silhouette standing at the top of the stairs that silently watched the entire situation from beginning to end, his bright green eyes staring intently at Kai’s door as the scene faded.
---------------------------------------------- (An hour later) ---------------------------------------------------------
The scene opens back up in the basement of Alisyn's home, where the sounds of something shifting in the darkness is heard. Suddenly, someone emerges from the shadows, carrying an unconscious young woman over his shoulders. It was Syn, holding an unconscious Mya Denton as he pulled a chair out and placed her in it. Syn then pulled a length of rope out from a nearby desk and began tying her up, causing her to stir. She blinked several times to adjust to the lighting, before she noticed her situation.
Mya: Why am I awake? What is going on?
Syn paused as he started to tie her legs, before looking back up at Mya with a raised eyebrow.
Syn: Huh, I could have sworn that you would be "Sleeping" for far longer than you were, but no matter. How do you like your new clothes, hmm?
It was then that Mya finally noticed her state of dress, or lack thereof. She was wearing a fishnet shirt, which did nothing to cover her, and a short skirt.
Mya: Is there a reason I am dressed like a stripper?
Syn clicked his teeth with his tongue, before replying.
Syn: Well, this is that "Thing" I requested that you help me with. I assume that you are aware that today is Kai's birthday, correct?
Mya nods, remembering hearing Alisyn making snide remarks about The Silent Wrestler's upcoming birthday, as well as his feelings on the matter.
Mya: Wouldn't he be excited about his birthday though? It's only once you turn 21.
Syn froze at the question, before he sighed as he dropped the piece of rope he was holding, a somewhat regretful look on his face as he dropped back into a seated position. Mya watched him for several moments in order to make sure that he wasn't going to try anything funny.
Syn: He hates it, you know.
Mya blinked in confusion as Syn started to speak, wondering what it is he meant by his statement.
Syn: Kai. He hates his birthday, he has ever since he turned 18. To him, this day has been nothing but a tainted anniversary of a moment in time where he nearly lost everything, and to me, the anniversary where I failed him as his brother. For the last 2 years, he's drifted further and further into the darkness. The very same darkness that I myself willingly give myself to, but I had hoped that he would walk away from.
Mya said nothing as Syn seemingly bared his very being to her, slightly in shock that the very man who tormented her up until recently cares so much about his sibling. She shook herself out of it as Syn continued speaking, this time looking directly at her.
Syn: But, for some odd, inexplicable reason, he's slowly started to open back up. I was puzzled at first, and then I realized that for the first time in a long time, he felt affection for someone. Namely, you. Now, I could have just as easily done something more my style, with Kai's gift....well, more my style than this, but I think this will work out nicely.
Mya again said nothing, still thinking over the recent developments as Syn finished tying her up. Syn stood up and looked at his handiwork, before clasping his hands and giving a small smirk.
Syn: Now all it needs is the finishing touches.
Syn reached into his pocket and pulled out a card, before placing it in Mya's hand, as well as a bow. He placed the bow on top of her head.
Syn: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand now, it's perfect.
Syn turned to leave, but stopped as Mya called out to him.
Mya: Wait..if I am his gift, then why did you stop us the other night?
Syn stood there for a few moments, before turning slightly and giving Mya an emotionless look.
Syn: The reason I stopped the two of you is relatively simple, my dear. Emotionally, neither of you were ready for it. And, in my opinion, neither of you will be ready for a while.
Syn pauses again before pulling out two black cloths as he walks around behind Mya as he tied one cloth around her head, leaving her in total darkness. He then grabs the back of her hair, causing her to gasp as the other cloth goes in her mouth. He ties it tight before he leaned next to her head and whispered in her ear.
Syn: But then again, I may be wrong.
Syn then turned back around and walked up the steps, leaving Mya all alone in the dark to ponder what he meant as the scene fades.
-------------------------------------------- (Several hours later) -------------------------------------------------
Kai walked into the house, finally finished with his attempt to "Relieve" some of the feelings he had in an intense 4 hour workout. He needed to be at his physical best for the tag team title match in several days, and despite whatever feelings he may be experiencing right now, the Title Match was still his primary focus. Dropping his duffel bag at the door, he looked around and noticed that the house was suspiciously quiet. No Alisyn harping at him about leaving his bag near the door, no Bull, Ape, Jimmy, or Jin to annoy him, nothing. Kai sighed slightly, thankful for the silence.
Kai: So it seems they've finally decided to leave me be. I suppose that I should be grateful for that.
Kai sat down in a nearby chair and sighed, still feeling the very familiar pains of self loathing and misery deep within him. He despised this day, and nothing he or anyone did would change that. He had thought that going through his usual routine would at least lessen the feeling, but all it had done was make him think and reflect. All it had done had made him more angry. He stewed in his anger through the entire 9 hours he trained, and nothing had managed to calm him. Kai sighed as he brooded over the matter
Kai: (Muttering to himself) Is that normal, to harbor a deep, unrelenting hatred for the day that you were born?
Kai continued to ponder these thoughts for several minutes, before he stood and went to go to his room, but stopped short as he noticed a light coming from the basement. Intrigued, Kai walked over and opened the basement door, and heard something coming from down stairs. Slowly, he advanced down the steps, cautiously keeping his eyes trained right in front of him in case something jumped out. He could see someone sitting in the middle of the room, and wisely kept his distance as he made it to the bottom step.
Kai: Whoever you are, show yourself. If you don't, you'll be leaving this house in a broken, mangled heap.
He hears muffled shouts from whoever is sitting there, and decided to step closer, only to freeze on the spot as his eyes took in the sight before him. It was Mya, bound, blindfolded, and gagged in the exact manner that Syn had left her an hour earlier. Kai stared at the young woman for a few moments, his mind going blank as he took in her provocative attire, and tried to keep himself focused as he walked over to her and pulled the cloth out of her mouth, allowing her to take in a large breath.
Mya: Thank God. Syn, you freak how can you tie me down here like this?
Kai, still enthralled by how she looked, didn't hear the question. Kai didn't know what was happening to him at the moment. He didn't know if it was left over feelings of passion from several nights earlier, or whether hi subconscious was actively seeking something to take his mind off of things, nor did he care. All he knew was he had to touch, had feel her again. He reached a hand out towards Mya's neck brushes a finger across her skin.
Mya: Uh Syn, what...what are you doing?
Kai continues to let his hands roam all over her body, his mind having given in to his lust. Mya moaned involuntarily as Kai's hands traveled all over her, softly groping and caressing every inch of skin available to him. He suddenly stopped as a hand wrapped around her waist, before his mind shifted back into focus. He gave a shuddering sigh as he reigned his emotions back in and withdrew his hands from her, before he leaned next to her ear.
Kai: It's me.
Mya: Kai?
Kai could see Mya visibly relax at the information, before responding.
Kai: Yes, it's me.
Mya suddenly blushed fiercely, causing Kai to tilt his head in confusion at the reaction.
Mya: That.....that was you?
Kai blinked at that, before he remembered exactly what it was he was doing a few moments earlier.
Kai: (Embarrassed) I'm sorry.....I...I lost control of myself there.
Kai, remembering that Mya was blindfolded, reached behind her head and untied it, letting it fall as Mya blinked a few times to allow her eyes to adjust to the light. She looked at Kai in embarrassment as he remembers what it is she's wearing. Kai gave her a stoic look, but the concern was evident in his eyes as he looked back at her.
Kai: Are you alright?
Mya nods lightly.
Mya: I'm fine, just a little embarrassed
Kai frowned, but gave her a look of understanding.
Kai: Ah, I see.
Mya suddenly shivered, feeling cold due to the low temperature of the basement. Kai, realizing this, walked behind her and started to untie her. Several minutes pass, and Mya stands up, rubbing her wrists from where the ropes had been tied, before shooting Kai a grateful look.
Mya: Thank you.
Kai shrugged slightly.
Kai: You're welcome, Mya-Ch......Mya. Now that I've untied you, perhaps you can tell me how it is you ended up down here.
Kai ignored his slip up and faced away from Mya, hoping that she either didn't notice it, or ignored it as she reached down and picked up the card that fell from her hand when she stood up.
Mya: Read for yourself.
Curious about what was on the card, opened it up and read.
Kai: (Reading the card aloud) "I hope that your 21st brings you the peace in life you've been deprived of. Sincerely, M.C.R."
Kai froze at the initials that had been signed onto the card, and stood there for several minutes, staring at it. Mya, confused by Kai's reaction, looked down, not entirely sure what to say to him. Finally, after several long minutes, Mya broke the silence.
Mya: Apparently, I was your gift.
Kai, still staring at the card, shook himself out of his state and looked at Mya in questioning.
Kai: What?
Mya sighed as she repeated her statement.
Mya: He told me I was your birthday gift.
Kai's look changed into his stoic mask, yet he seemed to be anxious about something
Kai: Did he......did he say anything? Give any reasoning as to why?
Mya nods, giving Kai a curious stare.
Mya: He said something about you hating your birthday and wanting to make up for it.
Kai said nothing at first, though it was obvious that Syn's words had some effect on him. Calmly he sat down in the chair that Mya had just been sitting in, his head kept down as he spoke again.
Kai: (Muttering aloud) Even now, he still thinks its his fault....
Mya blinked in confusion at the statement, and wondered what it was that seemed to bring out such sadness and remorse in both brothers.
Mya: Can I ask what happened?
Kai stiffened slightly, before he looked up at her.
Kai: I...don't like to talk about this situation. It's something I wished to be left in the past.
Mya covered herself up as much as she could as she felt Kai's eyes on her, before she replied.
Mya: Alright.
Kai continued to stare for a few moments, making Mya increasingly uncomfortable, before sighing. Slowly, he rose a hand up and pushed his long black hair to the side to expose the side of his neck. There, Mya saw a long, thin cut that seemed to go all the way over to the other side of his neck. She gasped slightly at the cut, and remembered Kai's words to her when she was about to commit suicide several days earlier.
Mya: That's what you meant before, when I had the razor blade?
Kai nods stiffly, before he turned away from Mya. The scar, to him, was the culmination of the worst day of his life, as well as the worst failure of his life. The painful memories and feelings that erupt whenever he looks at it have only grown stronger as well. Mya continued to stare at the scar, before looking at Kai, who still wouldn't meet her gaze.
Mya: Why?
Kai, still not looking at her, replied somberly.
Kai: An escape. An escape from my pain, my suffering......(Hissing) from those who made me.
Mya didn't miss the venomous edge at the last phrase, her mind already coming to the conclusion.
Mya: Your parents?
Kai again said nothing for the longest time, still refusing to meet Mya's gaze.
Mya: Life is rough. Some parents just seem to want to mess it up more.
Kai still said nothing, causing Mya to sigh. It seemed this subject really did get to him. She sat down in front of him on the floor, pulling her knees under her as she looked at him.
Mya: What can I do to help?
Kai finally, slowly turned to look at Mya, a haunted, hollow look in his eyes as he spoke.
Kai: Nothing. These memories will taint me until my dying day, and there's nothing that can change that.
Mya lowered her head in disappointment at that statement.
Kai: But.....I need you to make me a promise.
Mya looked back up at Kai and gave him a determined look.
Mya: I can try.
Kai then dropped down out of the chair and onto a knee right in front of Mya, his eyes searching hers as he spoke.
Kai: I want you to promise me that not a soul will know of this conversation, or what it entailed.
Mya nods.
Mya: Ok.
Kai continued to stare at her, before he shifted slightly to where he was in a seated position, a blank look on his face as he looked away.
Kai: Thank you.
Mya just pats him on the shoulder, before the two lapsed into silence, Kai trying to forget the conversation and the memories it brings, and Mya trying to figure out how she could help the younger wrestler.
Mya: What...happens now?
Kai brings an arm up and places it under his chin as he ponders the question.
Kai: I.......don't know.
Kai again remembers his actions from earlier, and frowns at the lack of control he displayed. Mya, feeling that there was nothing left to discuss, stood up and went to leave. Kai reaches out and grabs her shoulders, causing her to turn around.
Kai: Mya, I apologize for my actions earlier. It was wrong of me.
Mya smiled at the apology.
Mya: Don't worry about it. It will stay in the past.
Kai nods, before slowly letting go of Mya's shoulder. But instead of leaving, Mya sighed, then turned to look back at Kai.
Mya: I feel as though I failed you somehow.
Kai stared at her, obviously bewildered at the statement.
Kai: How?
Mya fully turned to look at Kai.
Mya: I don't know. It just feels like I have.
Kai walks over to Mya and places a hand on her shoulder.
Kai: I assure you, you have done nothing to fail me.
Mya nods and looks down, not entirely believing the statement. Kai gave her shoulder a gentle squeeze, before he went to walk up the steps. Mya stood there for several seconds, before following after him as the scene fades to black.
