The scene opens as Nathan and Damon Warrens sit in their San Diego home. Christian has already gone to sleep and Damon and Nathan are cuddling on the couch watching Nathan's all time favourite movie, the musical, RENT. They weren't far into the movie and as Damon put his arm around Nathan, the song "One Song, Glory" began. Damon was a firm believer that music often could sum up one's life. There was a song out there for everyone, a song that perfectly described them as a human. As Damon listened to "One Song, Glory" he realized how the song kinda reflected his life so far, so many eerie similaritites, so many memories. This was the song that was out there waiting for him to find it. It was his musical soulmate.
-----------------------
One song, glory.
One song, before I go.
Glory, one song to leave behind.
------------------------
As the song starts Damon's mind ventures to when he and Nathan decided to leave a child to the world for when they're gone. They wanted to have a child, not only to fulfill the lifetime goal that society had entrenched in people's desires, but because they wanted someone to teach everything they knew, to help a child have a better life than they did, something positive to leave behind for the world once they were gone.
The scene from almost two years ago fades in and Damon and Nathan are sitting in their living room in their Vancouver home, the bold purple is accented nicely by metallic silver and black. The two are currently deep in discussion when Nathan decides to drop a bombshell on Damon.
Nathan: Damon, I want a child, but I don't know if it's too soon... don't even know if you want a child..
Damon is taken off guard by the sudden statement. He doesn't know how to react at first, but he quickly gather's his thoughts.
Damon: Well, of course I do. I've been meaning to ask you about it. But are we ready?
Damon knew a child was a major change for him and his boyfriend. They may not be ready for it, but if Nathan really wanted a child, and they both agreed, maybe they could be ready.
Nathan: Well I believe we're both mature enough to raise a child, but our job means a lot of travelling, is this a lifestyle we want to bring a child into?
Nathan raised a good point. Wrestling required that they be on the road constantly. That may not be the healthiest life for a child, but maybe there was a way it could work.
Damon: I don't know... I mean maybe if the child's older they will be able to come with us to the arenas. Sit in the front seat, watch us, and we'll be able to watch them?
Nathan: Well then it will be much easier if we get an older child, but how old?
Damon remembered hearing from friends whom had adopted children, that the older the child, the less likely they would be adopted, that gave Damon an idea.
Damon: Well I know a lot of older kids, like teenagers, don't get adopted, so maybe like..fifteen or sixteen?
Nathan: Do you think that's too old?
Damon: Not at all, they'll be independant enough to be safe while we're doing a show, old enough to understand why we're travelling. We could even go as low as twelve age wise. That way they're becoming more mature, we'd still be able to take them with us, plus we have tons of friends who could stay with him in the stands or backstage if we both have a match and one of us can't be there.
Nathan: Okay, if you're sure. I don't mind about the age, but this is a big decision so...
Nathan was completely correct, it was a big decision, one of the biggest they would ever have to make.
Damon: Yeah I know, it's one we have to think about a lot...
Nathan: What about gender?
Damon hadn't even thought about gender yet. There were pros and cons to both sides. But Damon felt like he would be better suited for parenting a boy.
Damon: Well I was leaning towards a-
Nathan: Boy?
Damon: Yeah, don't want to deal with periods and bras and stuff, I don't know anything about them...
Nathan: Good point. So .... when do we want to start through all the legal stuff?
As a gay couple in America Damon realized that he and Nathan would have a hell of a lot of legal stuff to go through in order to adopt a child.
Damon: Wait maybe a month? Give us more time to check that we're absolutely sure this is what we want to do?
Nathan: That sounds like a good idea. We definitely need to think more.
The conversation goes quiet as both Damon and Nathan contemplate what their lives would be like with a child. Would they be good parents? Were they ready? Would the child be ready to enter their family? These were all questions that would go unanswered until they added a child into their household.
Damon finished his flashback and he thought of how those questions were answered. He and Nathan so far had been great parents, at least in his mind. Christian grew to love them both and respected them both as his parents, just as they grew to love and respect him as their son. They had become a happy family, like they wanted.
-----------------------
Find one song.
One last refrain, glory
From the pretty boy front man.
Who wasted opportunity.
----------------------
As the song continued Damon's thoughts ventured back to after he had lost to Michael Morrison, in his mind wasting a huge opportunity. He had been given a shot at the Platinum Championship and due to a mistake he was, in his mind, screwed out of a major victory.
Damon Warrens storms backstage, leaving his mentor James Baker in front of tens of thousands of PCW fans. He had just lost his match with Michael Morrison for the PCW Platinum Championship. Damon kicks over some chairs, pushes over stage equipment and knocks over a stage hand. Damon walks angrily past Jake Norton and Kyle Sync, pushing them out of his way. Sync and Norton smirk and walk after Damon, grabbing him by the shoulders. Damon furiously moves their hands off of him.
Norton: Hey Kyle, it seems that Damon fell short yet again.
Sync: That's right Jake. He just couldn't measure up. Poor Damon will never amount to anything.
Damon was barely holding in his anger as these two talentless jobbers harassed him. They were seriously pushing their luck.
Damon: You two really need to leave right now!
Norton: Oooh Kyle, I think we struck a nerve.
Sync: He's just mad that he's a dirty faggot stuck with a talentless husband.
That was the last straw. Insult Damon, fine he won't be happy about it, but he can usually sweep it off, but insult his family, that was a huge mistake.
Damon grabs Kyle Sync by the throat and holds him against the wall. Jake Norton hits Damon with a forearm to the side of the head. Damon stumbles sideways, letting go of Sync. Sync and Norton attack Damon, knocking him to the ground. Kyle begins to punch Damon while Jake stomps on him. Kyle Sync locks Damon in a sleeper hold while Norton continues stomping away at the "Nitemare". Damon is starting to fade until suddenly someone kicks Kyle Sync, forcing the jobber to release the hold. The two jobbers run away in fear, and soon it is revealed why. The rescuer turns out to be Damon's mentor James Baker. James grabs Damon's arm and helps his damaged protege to his feet. Damon immediately pushes James away in anger.
Damon: Get away from me! I'm not in the mood right now! You screwed me out of the title! Get out of my way.
Damon swings at James who dodges the blow and knees Damon in the gut before before landing a punch right into his student's jaw, knocking him to the ground.
James: I don't care who you are, student, friend, or not. Don't take a swing at me bro. Ever. I didn't mean for the match to go that way and you can believe that.
James shakes his head in disappointment at Warrens before walking away to his car. Damon pounds his fist against the ground in anger as he looks at Baker. There is fury in his eyes and his jaw is clenched as the scene fades out.
As the flashback ends Damon thinks about how his and James friendship is faring now. James had decided to move away, and was starting to become paranoid. This paranoia was putting serious tension on their friendship as James' trust for Damon was lessening fast. Hopefully the friendship would be mended.
---------------------
One song, he had the world at his feet.
Glory, in the eyes of a young girl.
A young girl.
Find glory.
Beyond the cheap colored lights.
One song, before the sun sets.
--------------------
He once again listened to the lyrics and yet again it caused his mind to flashback to a memory, this one almost a year ago. Damon was at an indy show where all proceeds went towards a local youth shelter. It was where he met his most prized student, and first graduate of the Badd Dreams Wrestling Academy, Brooklyn Punkari.
Damon was waiting behind the curtain for the announcer to do his job. When he heard his name echo throughout the arena, and "Big Balls" by AC/DC play, he knew it was his time to go steal the show. Damon walked out from behind the curtain pushing a cart filled with weapons. His opponent, Gabriel Walker, was in for a world of hurt. The dumbass wanted to have a hardcore match with "The Real Nitemare". Was he crazy? Well that was his own problem. Damon slapped hands with a few fans before throwing the cart and the weapons into the ring before slowly entering through the ropes.
The bell rings and Damon walks to the middle of the ring, where he is met by Gabriel Walker. Damon smirks and puts his hand out for Gabriel to shake, but Walker instead decides to slap Damon across the face. Damon starts to smirk before be bursts out laughing. Gabriel looks at the ref confused. He turns around and receives a huge right hand from Damon, knocking him off his feet as the crowd pops huge from the simple strike. Gabriel gets up to his feet only to get rocked by a huge knife edge chop from Damon. The chop rings out throughout the arena. Damon follows up by running off the ropes and sending Gabriel across the ring with a high impact running front dropkick. Damon waits for Gabriel to start to rise to his feet again. Warrens runs towards the ropes and springboards, leveling Gabriel with a tornado DDT. Damon looks around the ring at the weapons on the mat. He decides it's time to use a few of them. Damon grabs a kendo stick and the crowd cheers. He points the stick towards Gabriel who turns around and is met by a shot to the ribs with the kendo stick. Damon then slams the kendo stick hard over Walker's back, actually breaking the kendo stick in half. Gabriel falls to the mat in pain.
Damon looks around the ring for more toys to play with. He spots a trash can. Damon grabs the trash can and slams it into Gabriel's head twice before setting it on the mat. He grabs Gabriel ands hooks both arms, hitting a butterfly suplex. Gabriel lands hard on the now flattened trash can. Damon lifts Walker to his feet before irish whipping him into the corner. Damon grabs the shopping cart and places it right side up. He poisitions the cart to face Gabriel, and runs at his opponent ramming him with the shopping cart in the corner. Gabrial slumps forward into the shopping cart and Damon tips the cart and Garbiel onto the mat.
Damon slides out of the ring and looks under the ring apron. He finds what he's looking for and pulls a glass table out. The crowd cheers, knowing what's about to happen. Damon slides the table carefully into the ring. He starts to set the table up but notices Walker is getting to his feet. Damon goes over and hits a Badd Dream on Gabriel Walker. Damon finishes setting the table up. Damon grabs Gabriel and powerbombs him through the glass table Damon pins Gabriel. The ref counts to three and the bell sounds as Damon is announced the winner and "Big Balls" plays again. Damon raises his arm as the crowd cheers. He exits the ring as EMTs come to check on Gabriel Walker.
Damon walks back behind the curtains and is met by several of the wrestlers who congratulate him on the win. Damon goes and changes and grabs his bags. Damon goes out behind the hall rented for the event. It's getting a bit dark out. He contemplates leaving now, but decides to stay until the show is over. Suddenly he hears a noise to his right,he looks over and sees a girl with a bright green mohawk. She waves shyly to him, and Damon waves back. She walks over slowly to him.
Damon: Hi, I'm Damon Warrens.
Girl: I know, you're my favourite wrestler, I watched you all the time on PCW. Though I knew of you before then, I listened to your band years ago.
Damon: Wow, a real fan. Im honored. May I ask your name?
Girl: I'm Brooklyn Punkari.
Damon was suprised to have someone who was such a huge fan. He didn't think he was that big of a deal.
Damon: So did you enjoy the show?
Brooklyn: Yeah, it's great, I can't wait to start one day!
Damon: You want to wrestle?
Brooklyn: Yeah, but my family and friends don't really support my dreams to do such. They think a woman can't do it.
Damon: Wow, well let me tell you i know first hand that women are amazing wrestlers. I've worked with Danielle Lopez, Jane Isis, and Talia Skye. They are absolutely amazing competitors. So don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it!
Brooklyn: I won't thanks, I just need to find a school to go to for it.
Damon had an idea. He had wanted to start a wrestling school himself now that he was done at PCW. Maybe this girl would be his first student?
Damon: Well Brooklyn, what if I opened a school in San Diego? Would that work?
Brooklyn brings her hands to her face and begins to tear up.
Brooklyn: Oh my god, that would be amazing, it would be a dream come true. Are you going to start a school?
Damon: I am now.
That was how Damon had been inspired to open the Badd Dreams Wrestling Academy. The admiration of this one young woman told him it was the right thing to do. Brooklyn went on to become his first student and first graduate. She even went to PWW where she was managed by Damon.
Damon's latest flashback ended and Damon looked at the screen as the character Roger continued his song.
