Just a day or so till the biggest event of the month of May... PCW Slamathon II. The second annual May bash.
However this event is somewhat special, no, not because it's in the home of Rock N' Roll, nor because its the home of "The King" (Elvis that is.) But special because the PCW's biggest name not to have held a championship makes his long awaited return. Thats right, Britains biggest export in the world of wrestling "The Original Showstealer" SJ Funk, returns to in ring action.
It's been nie on three months since "The Funkster" took time off for personal family reasons, although it has since been revealed that it was a happy joyous occasion this time. Yes, Amy didn't go psycho and tried to kill the Funk Family. This time anyway.
But back to the topic at hand. This past week on Saturday Night Rapture, the fans were and the announcers were left in shock and awe as the same man made his first appearance since his video call announcement of his leave. Funk appeared on the stage after a triple threat match between, Johnny Scumm and newcommers, Liam Reilly and Jay Miller. With Miller picking up his debut victory, SJ appeared and signalled a challenge... A match at Slamathon II. A match between the newcomer Jay Miller and the SJ Funk.
With the very impressive debut made by Miller, will this be a challenge too far for the returning Wrestling Legend, or will the power of a Funkaholic filled Funk Train, run full steam and prove too much for Miller to handle.... There's only one way to find out, and thats to tune into PCW's Pay-Per-View SLAMATHON II! LIVE in MEMPHIS, TENNESSE! This Saturday.
**We begin to fade up into the Natchez Penthouse Suite, in the River Inn, Memphis. The camera pans round a room of chocolate brown with its gold drapped curtains across the wall to rest upon a single gold chair. The chair seems to sit infront of and old slightly fading poster, a poster of the old FDF style. A copy of the original backdrop that both Funk Brothers used in their old promos. Sitting in the gold chair is the man himself, the recently returning PCW superstar, SJ Funk. Funk sports his usual black combat trousers and a self advertisory t-shirt. However this time he is wearing one of his older t-shirts. An old black t-shirt with one of his old sayings on the front in bold white letter. This one has the old "It's Funkin' Time" saying. He removes his old blue framed red shades which also is a set back to his old retro days to look directly at the camera.**
SJ ~ So I'm set to return once more. This time, I return on my feet, I left the business for several months for reasons that were private. Reasons that were of joyment to my life, for once.
Sure, I've not been the most active person in the business within the last few years, but things just haven't gone as planned. I wish I could have been here more often, I wish I could have been able to give it my all each and every single week. Unfortunately things come along and get in the way of that. So my life has been really chaotic over the past several years.
I know many people sit back out there and go one record, well annoymusly on record stating that I'm finished, my time has come, and my time has gone. Those same people are just sitting in their lazyboy chairs, drinking their cans of alcohol, while eating crisps or what not that they spilled on their no longer white vest tops. Those same people dont have a sodding clue as to what it is like to step into the ring and actually take part in a match. Sure, I've been out of it for what, almost three months now. I even had to give up my spot at the PCW's main pay-per-view and the spot to face Yoshi, for his world title. Do I regret giving up that spot? No. Family is more important that titles.
Enough of my blabbing, this week, is my triumphant and huge return to PCW. A return which sees me face one of the new young PCW guys. I say, young, but there's not that much different in age really, what's seven years in this day and age. But yes, he's still young, but I'm not exactly an old guy now am I. Seriously, you don't see me walking around with the use of a zimmerframe that some people in this business actually need. Of course I wont be naming names, mainly cause there's no one here in PCW that would apply to. Well, that is unless Paul Blair is still an active member of our roster here, in which case, screw the frame he needs one of those motorised scooters.
Ahh crap, there I go again, the good Old Fashioned SJ Funk. Rambling on about unrelated topics. Just like the Funk of old some would say. But no, lets focus, and focus I shall become.
Last week, everyone was shocked as I made a somewhat of a long awaited appearance on PCW television. Last week, I came to the ramp, and made it known that I challenged Jay Miller to a match this weekend, at Slamathon. The ovation I got was immense, and even at three months without a word, the fans still seemingly are fully behind me. Well most of them anyway.
Jay, I suppose it's only fitting to let you in on my decision. Well it's simple. I've been away from the ring for three months, the last time I was here in PCW, I had some news that saw me vacate my spot for the title. Now if I was to lose that means going to the back of the line. That's where you are at right now. Now is that because you don't deserve to be any further up? Well in a way, yes, but after your match last week, no. You impressed me last week. You really showed, not just me but the rest of the PCW guys that you've got talent. That you can hold your own in the ring. So, if you put the fact that you impressed me, and the fact that I've dropped to the back of the line, I thought, what better way to announce my big return to this company, then to face a man that in his very first match in PCW made people stand up and take note.
Now sure, you're going to get the egotystical jerks denounce you as a talented wrestler, one's by the name of Yoshiru Long, Sickboy and Michael Morrison. But let me tell you, that they did take note, and that they did see that you've talent. Should they be scared of you? I'd say yes, probably not right now, but definately in the future. Now, going on the fact like I've said, you impressed me as well as others, and the fact that I knew that the PCW management unfortunately did not give a space on the card for yourself, they did have me on the card, since I requested it, but they did not have a suitable opponent, or so they said... Yes, the man with the womens name on Commentary and our "gracious" owner, Mrs. Taint didn't have a worthy opponent for me. So I decided to go out and grab myself an opponent of my own, someone I saw as a great athlete, and one that would give me a great match-up for my return. I went out and found myself a more than suitable opponent... I found you. Out of respect for what you did on your debut, and for what I see is a bright future for you, I decided to offer you a challenge for your very first PCW pay-per-view, and I'm glad that you accepted it.
I saw you and Mike, who I believe to be your brother if my research served me correctly. I saw that both of you have done your research, it comes as a nice refreshing change from a lot of others that have come into this game before you. People with no respect, didn't think that doing research on opponents is necessary. You've proven to me that you deserve a chance to shine at this. I'm giving you that chance this week.... Now of course, don't go expecting an eas ride Jay. Simply that's just not me. I give my all into every match that I partake... Okay, well not my last match here, where I got myself disqualfied, but I had an alternative motive for doing that. Payback...
I saw you picking up on my absence for the past few months and you pretty much came out and made the rusty excuse for me. I must disagree with that though. You see, for all I've been away from PCW, I've not exactly taken things lightly. I've been competing, albeit it with my closest friends and my brother, who you may find out were all former wrestlers themselves. So there won't be that much rust if any. Mind you, if you do beat me, you'll have deserved to do so, unless something happens and someone from my past decides to screw me out, which may happen, hopefully it wont. There is something that should be known, I don't make excuses up for my defeats, if I lose, I lose. It's that simple. Obviously, I don't plan on losing this week, nor do I actually want to lose. But there is no disgrace in losing, especially when it's to somebody that has the ability that you have, and a desire to succeed here. A desire that I saw you omit last week during your triple threat match.
Last week, you put an end to Mr. Scumm's hot streak, and like you say you handed two victories to some other wrestler that ended with a win to lose ratio of one hundred and twenty four to eight. Which even I've got to admit is impressive. You know that you can take on anybody, and from what I've seen so far, I won't be arguing against that claim. But what ever you do, dont go down the path of many others that have done beforehand, and completely ignored what I can accomplish in the ring, and underestimate what I am about. In fact, just ask Sickboy, ask Terry Richards. They've both been on the wrong end of results against me, and both for the same underestimating me reason.
You say you've never backed down from a challenge... Well it's good to hear. Because simply put, that reminds me of well, myself. I too don't back down from challenges, sure I was the one who innitiated this one, and I think I've done well in my choice of opponent. But you did get ahead of yourself Jay. You said that your victory could set many trails ahead for success here.... Sure that is most likely true and all, but you went a little ahead of yourself... Talking about a victory that has not become of yet. This week, your brother told you, I'm going to be your biggest challenge here in PCW, yes, it's only your second match, and I'm not one to tout my own horn, so to speak, if I was someone else, seeing you in this situation, I'd agree.
Okay, fair enough, you retracted slightly a few sentences later, saying if you win, you'll shatter all doubts that people backstage have about you. That too is so true. But as will any other victories you may go on to pick up. I've no doubt your confidence is high right now, it should be after you debut victory here. A match in which say you beat two other competitors. That match was tough, I would now say, dont think that ours wont be as tough, as it'll be tougher, but well you've already said that, so no point in repeating it. Just as long as you remember that. You said that you're pleased that I chose you, I'm glad to hear that. I'm glad that it seemingly meaned alot to you with my slight show of respect. You asked a simple question of me though. One that makes me a little, well slightly irked and slightly paranoid. The one hope you have of when we step into the ring at Slamathon, and that was the fact that you hoped there would be no cheat shots, not weaseling ways of gaining the victory.... It's strange you would say that. As I've never once cheated a victory. I may have stole a victory, with a knockout blow or a roll up out of nowhere, but I've never used any underhanded tactics, apart from my last match inorder to gain my revenge on Sickboy. Sure, I've used weapons and what not in matches before, but those where in matches where that stuff was permitted. But since none of that is permitted in our match-up at Slamathon, don't worry about any underhanded tactics. I just hope that with you bringing it up, its not a cover for you to use something of the same. From what I've seen of you, and from the way you've been talking, I doubt you will resort to that sort of thing. This weeks match between us will be sorted and won by our skills, our technique, our physical ability as well as our willingness to put on a helluva show for the fans. Oh, and nice slogan by the way, the keep it fair in the square.... It's pretty catchy that. Don't worry I won't use it. It's not often you can say that you trust the other man not to go to underhanded tactics. It's not like any of us are planning on joining the hypocritical and egotistical group known as The Elite any time soon. Speaking of which, I'd be a little weary if I were you.... I think they may take this opportunity to try for revenge for me taking all of them out the last time I was in a PCW ring.
What got me though, was the fact you said you may even learn a thing or two... You know... Jay... Sorry was about to say Kid, I'm not older than you by enough to actually say that. But anyway, Jay. Since you still learning, I hope I can teach you some tricks or two. If you are as respectful as your words seem to be Jay, I've got to say, you're earning more and more respect from me, and I'm pretty sure that this week, after our match, I'll have even more respect for ya.
So Jay, you feel like Rocky Balboa huh? Stepping into the ring with Apollo Creed... Well let me just quell that right now. I aint no Apollo Creed. Sure I may be a little flashy sometimes. I may be a fun loving guy most times, but when it comes down to in the ring, once that bell rings, I'm more like Rocky myself. I work my arse off, I give my everything into each match. This week wont be any different. You may be as you claim, be getting stronger physically, mentally and spiritually, but as am I. I've been working my arse off ever since the day I returned home to England to be with my family. I've been working up to this point, this match, my return to wrestling and PCW. I've been working up my strength, my stamina, I've been preparing both physically and mentally for this match. Thats not to say that you aint, I don't think its my place to say, you're the best to judge that, and if you say you have, I'll agree, not that I don't believe you, as I do. But theres something that frightens me, well frighten's not the word to use really... Worry me. That's it, theres something that worries me. No its not the fact that yes you can potentially cause what would be considered an upset. No that isn't the worrying factor, what does worry me is the fact that you mentioned that you day dream about how our match goes.
There was something I learned as my time as a goalkeeper when playing football, soccer that is not American Football... And that is never dream of what can be, as it often leads to mishapes and can often disturb your concentration leading to errors. I'm not saying that you are complaicent Jay, just letting you know what leading sports psychologists have learned... And believe me when I say this, I can go on record and actually say that it has happened to me a few times when I was first starting out in this business. I know that for you this match at Slamathon is huge, I don't doubt that, now most people are likely to say that this match will mean nothing to me, there is nothing for me in this match, apart from personal pride. Well I can categorily deny that hugely. You see Jay, for all this match is huge for you, it's just as big it is for me, and it's not because of the fact its my return, cause quite frankly it was only a matter of time before I would have returned anyway. I know that you are going to be looking to do everything you can in order to claim victory. I wouldn't expect anything less, not just from you, but from everyone who steps into the ring. I'll be doing exactly the same too Jay. I'll be doing everything that I can in order to win too. Not only that but to make sure that the fans witness a great show. A show that we will be able to put on. But, I've already had my fame and fortune and my popularity is set huh Jay? Well that's interesting, and there is something that you should know. I'm not here for the fame and fortune. I'm here because I want to be, I am doing something that I love to do, and that Jay, is entertaining the fans. I know that others are here for the gold, and sure, I'd love to be able to win championship gold again, normally I'd say that I'm not interesting in the gold, but well its been a while since the last time I wore some gold around my waist. But I'm not here like most for the paycheck that comes with the teritory. For me that is just an added bonus. Your right Jay, I'm prepared for this fight, it would be completely stupid for me to actually challenge someone and not be prepared for the fight wouldn't it?! But you claim that you want this more than I do? Is that true Jay? Is that really true? I mean, how much do you want it? Well you want to win this to prove yourself to everybody. You want to win to prove a point not only to PCW, but to yourself, and well to me. I know you want to prove yourself here, and to prove to these fans, the other stars and to PCW management that you deserve your place here and that you deserve to fight your way to become one of the top of this game. But thats you, you're hungry, you want this more than a junkie, pretty strong words. Its not that I totally disagree with that, but its hard to imagine someone wanting something more than a drug addict. So you're hungry, you want this win. You want it more than me, or so you say. But here is the problem that I have. You don't know how badly I want this win. Sure I'll claim that entertaining the fans is one of the more important things, and thats true. But I've got alot to prove as well Jay. I've got a lot more doubters of my abilities than you think. There are loads of people out there who believe that I don't have what it takes to carry on in wrestling. People who believe that I should have retired ages ago and stayed retired. I've got to prove to them, to myself and to anybody out there who are listening to my critics. I've got to prove to them that I am still competing at the best of my abilities and that I am on the top of my game. Now to be honest Jay, by the fact that you claiming you want this more than I, it seems to me like I've got to prove to you as well as everybody that I have the drive, I have the desire to succeed and to once again become one of the top stars in a federation, more so right here in PCW. A drive, desire and a determination to succeed and win as many matches as I can. This match is the start, it is the first of many of which I believe will come. This week its going to be a tough match. If you do indeed have as you say, the drive and determination to win this match as much as a junkie wants his next fix, and the fact that I want it as much as I do, then this should be the makings on one helluva match between us... A great showcase for the fans.
As for this time being the Jay Miller time, it may be. It may be your time to get your start at success here in PCW. As you say I've done a helluva lot in my career. I've had success and I've shown the world what I can do. However, I have never had success here in PCW. I've never been classed as the top dog here in PCW. Its funny though Jay, what you said after that, that if it gets to it, that I think I've got the match won to make damn sure that I have.... Well all the time I've spent here in this business, not just here in PCW, is that I always make sure that I've got my opponent out before I count my chickens.... After all the phrase does say, never count your chickens before they hatch, and I wont be doing that. You say that I need to double check to make sure your done and out, barely breathing and not moving a muscle cause you wont surrender... Well the same can be said the other way round Jay. I'm not known to give up, in fact look at my history. I've said it a few times, enemies have tried to kill me, my ex-fiancΓ©e tried to kill me, even old wrestling foes have tried to kill me. But here I am still living the dream. I've never quit, I've never gave up at anything that I did. In fact theres something you should actually know too.... I've never, ever tapped out. Yeah, I may have lost via submission due to actually passing out, but thats me for ya... I'll put my body on the line, I'll rather pass out with the pain than tap out. I don't quit, never have never will.
You said before that though, that neither of us have been in the ring as of late, that's true, you've had a nice and tough little warm-up last week in a triple threat match. But I hope that by those words that you don't think that is going to give you an edge over me, because you've had a match recently? I hope not, because that my friend would be a sign of underestimation. My first match in PCW, after several months to a year away, I defeated another legend in Paul Blair, but in the same night I went and competed in another match, more specifically a battle royal. Sure the ending of it may be classed, in fact will probably be classed as a little controversial, and I'll admit it was, but I came away with the victory. No, I'm not saying this to say that I'm going to have the edge, because who is to say that either of us have. It'll be proven on Saturday Night which one of us has the edge if any.
A win over me will pave a way for many opportunities in the future. Yeah, that's probably true Jay, but I don't think that a defeat will stop any opporunities either. I'm all for the younger generation coming through and getting the opportunities they deserve, but just like I had to way back, you and they will have to earn them. You get a chance to earn future opportunities this week, I won't and cannot say that it wont. If you have the drive and desire that I see burning in you, you'll bounce back if I walk away with the victory.
This week is a make or break situation, for both of us. So there is no need for you to worry about me doing any underestimating of you, your ability or your drive to succeed. After all you've got to remember that I, myself was once in the position that you find youself in. I know what it's like to be in your situation. Oh and yeah, believe me when I say this Jay, I don't think of this my comeback, that everything is going to be just fine, that this is going to be a walk in the park... Seriously do you think that I choose you as my opponent from my comeback because I think facing and winning you is going to be a breeze? Come on who do you take me for, Terry Richards?! I choose you, because of what I saw in you, therefore I believe that this will be a great match. My fame has nothing to do with this match, well it may draw in a couple of more people to watch it or what not, but it will make no difference within our match-up. As you rightly pointed out it wont matter in the match, nor will it in any other.
As for there being a title on the line, a title to the start of a long career in PCW for you... I dont believe that is the case. I don't believe that this match will start nor stop your career from being long, we've already seen what you are capable of, and well lets just say that I personally believe that match started your career here in PCW off. I'm just another stepping stone. Of course because of my name, and of how well I'm known around here, I'm going to be a big stepping stone, and yeah, if you come away as the victor, I'm pretty sure that people will look back upon this moment as the start.... So actually your title maybe correct, but thats if you win. What people would be wondering more so, well what I am, is whether you have the drive to bounce back from a defeat. Sure, it may come down to the fact that I am not the person to put a big defeat against your name, I'll do what I can to be that person, but only time will tell on who will actually come away with the win.
But it is a strong point to make, saying that this is a show that I will be stealing, thats a bold statements, thats claiming that you've won the match again.... Another sign of you underestimating me. Something you didn't want me to do. I hope to God you realise that, and come Slamathon, you change that and bring everything you have and more so. As it will take all you have and then some to keep me down.
Oh and for the record, let your brother be at ringside, let him bring some paper and a pen. Let him take notes, cause like you said, you may learn something, but in case you miss something it may be great for your brother to spot and letting you know of it.
Now before I go, sicne we're doing the whole Retro thing this week....
Ladies and Gents, boys and girls, its time for everybody to get ready because its FUNKIN' TIME!!! And yes, PCW you should get ready too because the FUNK TRAIN is coming, and its running down the tracks once again.....
As for you Jay..... Be ready, get prepared because if you aint, theres only one thing that will happen and that is that...
YOU WILL BE FUNKED OUT!!!!
.....
I know, I know, its corny right, thats why I don't use it these days.... So let me officially finish off this way.....
OH FUNK YOU!!!!
**With that our scene fades to black as our feed comes to an end.**

-- OOC - Good Luck to Jay, and sorry about the crappiness of the rp... I lost my original as explained to James, and this is all I could get done.
